Insurance Companies have become a powerful force within Irish society. They clearly have their own agendas which essentially is the making of profit. On foot of campaigning by Insurance Companies a new Law is to be passed by the Government. The new Law will change the current position in terms of the responsibility of an owner of property. From now on the owner of property will have to act with “reckless disregard” for the safety of a visitor. Also, the Law will allow for border ranges of scenarios where it can be proved that a customer has voluntarily assumed a risk. The overall gist of this Law will be to favour Insurance Companies and not persons injured. Over the last number of years the Courts have become increasingly anti claimant. The Law has now overly favoured Insurance Companies at the expense of the individual.
